Ralph AlexanderIt is with great regret that I have to report that Ralph passed away on Monday 22nd April, at the age of 84. At Morris Practice on Tues 22 Jan, Ralph had suffered a stroke and was admitted to Queen Mary’s hospital, Sidcup. Initially, he made good progress, but unfortunately he suffered further strokes, and passed away on Monday due to heart failure. Stuart was at his side. The funeral will take place on May 3rd at Eltham Crematorium, at 3.45pm. West Hill flowers have been arranged through Les Moore. Ralph had been with West Hill since 1984, and was well respected in the folk world as a superb accordian player and musician with an encylopaedic knowledge of dance tunes, arrangements, classical music .... He went on folk camps, and played regularly as a member of the ‘Dansonairs’ folk group. Following the loss of his wife Phyllis two years ago, Ralph continued to play the accordian for West Hill, despite not being in the best of spirits, and we are most grateful for his support. He will be sorely missed, by both West Hill and the many folk who knew him over the years. I am sure you will join me in expressing our deepest sympathy to his family. We continued with our St George’s Day programme at the Blacksmiths Arms Cudham, as we were sure that Ralph would have wanted this. A glass was raised in honour of his memory. |
