Furley Nicholls

It is with great regret that I have to report that Furley passed away during the night of Thursday 31 July.

He had mown the lawn and trimmed the hedge that day, and had intended to join us at the Queen's Head at Downe, but felt tired following his gardening, and decided to stay at home. That night he succumbed to a heart attack.

Furley was one of the founder members of West Hill Morris, and, though retired from dancing, he supported us wherever possible.

He was latterly the noted Quartermaster for the Jolly Boys, and will be fondly remembered for his Full English Breakfasts cooked on his own griddle at various Youth Hostels, and for supplying cube sugar to put on our cornflakes.

He surprised us at the last Jolly Boys cycling in March by turning up at the RisingSun pub on Sunday morning with hot sausages, bacon, freshly baked french bread and hot coffee, all set out on a fold up table with tablecloth, plates and proper cutlery. This set us up well, and helped waft away the cobwebs of the previous night's ale before we set off on the next leg of the cycle ride..

Our thoughts go out to his family and friends.
